Frequently Asked Question
How does a water softener work?
Hard water is softened by removing the calcium and magnesium it contains. When hard water passes through the softening system’s resin bed, the calcium and magnesium (hardness) ions are removed through an ion exchange process and exchanged for a very small amount of sodium, so only softened water passes through to your home.
Once the resin bed fills up with hardness ions, it must be regenerated (cleaned). The system will automatically clean itself, restoring the resin to a “clean” state so the ion exchange process can begin again.
Water softeners are available with a variety of features and sizes. We are proud to offer efficient and reliable Kinetico systems. Request a free in home analysis to determine which model is right for you, your budget and your water.
