Commercial water softener benefits
Implementing a commercial water softener protects and extends the life of your business’ equipment. Hard water damages components in your buildings; water softening prevents damage and saves you money. We recommend water softeners for:
- Restaurants
- Hotels
- Apartment complexes
- Retirement/nursing homes
- Manufacturing facilities that use a lot of hot water
- Office buildings (Cooling towers and humidifiers need soft water for proper functionality)
What is hard water?
Hard water is high in dissolved minerals such as calcium and magnesium. These minerals won’t harm us when we ingest them, but they cause a build-up of calcium carbonate deposits when the water is heated. High mineral levels in water raises the cost of water heating, lowers the efficiency of your machinery, clogs pipes and causes other damages.
What is the function of commercial water softener?
A commercial water softener removes the hardness minerals that cause scaling damage and replaces them with minerals that stay dissolved and don’t cause scaling.
How does a commercial water softener work?
A water softener has a capacity. When it reaches its capacity, the softener regeneration flushes the calcium and magnesium minerals from the media in the softening tanks. During regeneration, soft water is not available. That’s why it’s important your water expert helps you choose the right size commercial water softener. They’ll do that by determining how water is used at your facility.
Some businesses may need soft water all the time, so you may need multiple commercial water softeners installed for parallel service. When one softener is regenerating, the other is still treating your water.
It is also important to consider the overall water quality so you don’t create another problem while treating the hardness. This is what our water specialists do.
Benefits of a commercial water softener
- Reduce hard water build-up inside pipes and machinery to save your equipment from unnecessary wear and tear
- Improve the energy efficiency of your building, especially in the production of hot water and humidification
- Offer cleaner products free of streaks or minerals left behind
- Provide better-tasting drinking water for your customers
- Use fewer detergents and cleaners on your equipment
Commercial water softener installation
Our certified water experts have decades of experience in commercial water softener installation. Currently, we carry several commercial water softeners from Kinetico, Clack, Fleck and others, including:
Commercial Plus Softener (point of use)
This softener requires no electricity, operates 24/7 and provides excellent flow rates. The compact commercial softener is designed to fit underneath a commercial dish table, with casters for easy cleaning and maintenance.
Commercial non-electric hot softener (point of use)
The twin tank design ensures your business gets as much quality soft water as you need, when you need it. Whenever the softener needs to regenerate, it seamlessly switches to the other tank.
The demand-operated, non-electric valve regenerates the resin based on actual water use rather than a timer or computer, so you save on salt and wastewater.
The soft water, countercurrent regeneration process maintains the softener’s resin integrity for longer, so you experience less downtime for maintenance.
Commercial Clack and Fleck softeners
Sometimes a softener must connect to and communicate with a control panel, such as a PLC-based panel. The Clack and Fleck electric softeners can fill this function. Countercurrent regeneration and multiple tank systems are also available.
We’re happy to send one of Secondwind’s certified water specialists for a site evaluation to help determine the best commercial water softener for your business needs.
