~ by Steve Guercia, Commercial Sales & Service Manager
I love treating and fixing water. I don’t really know why, but I get great satisfaction out of the entire process; understanding what the problem is, understanding what the requirements are, understanding you, the customer. And then presenting a solution that meets your needs. A solution that works. Not just today, but for many, many years. I want our customers to be customers for life. That takes hard work and a real commitment to each and every one of our customers. We have to care if we want customers for life.
Last year I was at an event with about 200 people that took place at one of our customer sites. I looked around the room and thought “these people are drinking my water.” I take great pride in that and for the last few years I’ve been able to develop a department where everyone feels that same satisfaction.
So let’s meet the staff of the Commercial Services division of Secondwind. Commercial offers design, installation, and service to commercial locations such as business and manufacturing, Public Water Systems such as schools and communities, and wells contaminated with gasoline or other chemicals.
Chris Vaughn, Rich Laughton, and Scott Venti make up our Public Water Systems team, which are systems that are regulated through the Safe Drinking Water Act. We operate or sample over 130 systems in NH. Their jobs are to protect public health by maintaining safe and reliable drinking water to thousands of users. We take care of our customers as if we were drinking that water every day.
Heather Dahlin has a very special job at Secondwind, she takes gasoline out of peoples’ water. She makes their water safe to drink and bathe in. When we first go to these homes, the water at the kitchen sink often smells like you’re putting gas in your car. When we’re done, the water is completely safe to use. Our commercial customers are very busy, and Heather maintains their water quality so they don’t have to think about it. She manages preventive maintenance services based on our customers’ needs and budgets. Heather spends a lot of time on the phone, understanding what our customers want, what they need, and developing maintenance programs to meet those needs.
Finally, Marie Degulis, provides our outreach and relationship management for the Commercial businesses. She pokes around to see what is being built and where the customers are that could benefit from better water. It could be drinking water at a business, humidifiers at a hospital, or boilers in an apartment building. Marie loves sharing our story with anyone that will listen.
So that’s us. Steve, Chris, Heather, and Marie. We share a passion for clean water. We believe we are the best and we deliver that quality every day to every customer. I have been with Secondwind over 20 years and love telling the “newbies” about our history and our successes. It’s not unusual when we hear that we’re about to service a customer site and I will share when we first met them 15 or 20 years ago. We believe it says a lot about us when customers stay with us for so long.
We do not sell equipment; we provide better water. Whether you drink it, heat with it, manufacture with it, or bathe with it, we can help make a better day for thousands of people. We think that’s pretty cool.
