Our Certified Home Inspector Water Treatment Program helps home inspectors offer even more value to their clients.
~ by Marie Degulis, Business Development
Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to work with many home inspectors and have learned a great deal from them and the work they do. We realized that many home inspectors carefully avoided an assessment, or even a conversation, with their clients about a water treatment system that was on a site they were inspecting. We really understood that. The systems were exotic tanks and controls and they pretty much looked the same, so what and how could they inspect them anyway? Many times, if they even inquired about the system, even the seller was unsure about the purpose and function. What a hassle! That’s why we developed our certified home inspector water treatment program.
From this, we asked ourselves, what if the home inspector could learn about the basic testing methods and measurements used by laboratories, water treatment best practices, and how to identify the equipment used to solve some of the common water problems in our region? This would be a unique value the home inspector could bring to the table to increase their value to their clients. We also thought this could be another way we could continue our educational approach to water treatment. To move forward, we began to offer training to some select home inspection companies who agreed to give it a try.
As of today, this training is a two-day session at our office, and after the session, each home inspector meets one of our Water Specialists who carries on the relationship with them as they try out their new knowledge. We have been having some success, especially now that the inspector can take a picture on their smart phone and send it to us as they are on the site. Based on that, we can guide them to some further assessment steps. Home inspectors are now able to add information about the water treatment system to their client report and can assist the client with a better understanding of their system and their responsibilities for maintaining it and keeping it functioning.
Secondwind’s Home Inspection Certification program can count toward the 20 CEUS home inspectors need to accumulate each two year cycle.
