A Year of Growth & Improved Customer Service
As state and federal regulatory organizations are tasking pubic water system operators with more and more responsibilities, Secondwind has experienced an increased demand for our PWS services. To keep up with the needs of our customers, we’ve invested considerable resources in this area.
More Certified PWS Operators
“Whether you run a small or large public water system, today’s PWS operators aren’t just collecting water samples and bringing them to the lab,” says Chris Vaughn, Primary PWS Operator at Secondwind. Vaughn explains that the long-term success of any public water system goes well beyond simply complying with state and federal water safety standards. “Today’s PWS operators need to understand system repair and maintenance, long-term asset management, and more,” he points out.
Secondwind has invested in extensive PWS operator training and certification this year. “We currently have 11 licensed PWS operators on our team. This gives us the staff resources needed to keep up with the demand for public water system operator services in New Hampshire and Massachusetts,” he adds. Whether we’re operating your entire public water system for you, or assisting your PWS operator in maintaining and managing it, we have the knowledgeable, certified staff you can count on.

Improved Process Control
Currently, Secondwind operates or supports nearly 145 PWS systems. We’ve been working vigorously on our process control within this area of our business. “This ensures we provide consistent, value-add services to all our customers, no matter how big or small,” Vaughn explains. Having the correct processes, practices, and documentation in place for every one of our PWS customers helps us better manage their system. It also assists us in providing clear plans for the future of each system. “We can help the owners and communities budget for system maintenance costs and future asset service and repair. This is especially helpful when emergencies arise and we have to resolve issues quickly,” he adds.
Better Integrated Services
Secondwind Founder and President Christine Fletcher says that in the past, our PWS Services were run like a small, separate business within the company. “We’re working to better integrate it within the whole company with improved processes and procedures and an increase in the knowledge shared across departments. Ultimately, this will allow us to better serve our customers,” she explains. For example, our in-house commercial account rep is learning the PWS side of the business so she can better support both our customers and team members.
Keeping up with Regulatory Changes
An important part of our work is keeping up with the regulatory changes, and understanding how these affect our customers and their PWS systems. “We anticipate some regulatory changes in 2019, including the SB247 lead sampling, a new MCL for PFAS, and the possibility of a new limit for arsenic,” notes Vaughn. Our knowledgeable team helps our customers make the design, maintenance, and repair decisions needed to ensure their systems’ long-term success.
